About

Who am I?

Hello, I'm Sarah Edwards. Having grown up in South Africa and pursued studies in general nursing, midwifery, community health, and psychiatry, I relocated to the UK in 1997. Since then, I've specialised as a paediatric nurse and later qualified as a specialist community practitioner (Health visiting) and worked as a school nurse.

As a mother of two teenagers diagnosed with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), our family's journey has been complex. My personal experience involved a significant shift from being organised and in control, to grappling with sleep deprivation, navigating healthcare and education systems, feeling isolated, and often questioning my abilities as a parent. I pondered on how to support my children in becoming resilient adults while managing the demands of my career.

This encouraged me to change my career allowing me to pursue my passion for empowering parents and children to make positive changes.

My goal is to assist parents and children, whether individually or as a family, in a non-judgmental manner. I aim to provide perspective and help build a 'toolkit' of strategies in order to face challenges positively. The focus is on overcoming adversity, navigating difficult situations and behaviours, and understanding one's emotions in order to unlock their full potential.

In our sessions, I encourage families or individuals to reflect on challenging situations, set goals,  and think about new ideas and solutions. I share practical tips to enhance your 'toolkit' for a smoother life transition. The objective is to move from surviving to thriving.

Rest assured all sessions are confidential unless a disclosure raises safeguarding concerns that necessitate sharing information with professionals from other agencies to ensure the well-being of the individual. Young people can also speak openly, knowing that the information discussed will not be shared with parents without their consent. Additionally, I am DBS checked.
